How to customise your car

Posted on

For those who only use their car occasionally, customising it might seem a bit frivolous and unnecessary. However, if you love driving and spend a significant amount of time in your vehicle each day, then it makes sense to invest a little bit of time and money into enhancing its appearance and performance. Here are a few of the ways in which you can do this.

Paint the exterior

Provided the job is carried out by a professional using high-quality paint, changing the colour of your car's exterior can do wonders for its appearance. It's a great option for those who have purchased a second-hand car in a colour which is perhaps not quite to their liking.

The cost of re-painting a car can vary considerably. The most affordable option is a single coat of enamel paint, whilst the most expensive would include several coats of paint and the use of a sealant (usually urethane). If you're only interested in refreshing the colour of your vehicle or are on a tight budget, the former is the best choice. However, if you wish to give your car a complete makeover, it might be worth splurging on the latter.

When choosing a colour, consider not only your own personal tastes, but also the upkeep associated with specific shades; for instance, if you go for a white or pastel colour, you will probably need to wash your car more frequently, as lighter tones show dirt and grime more easily.

Change the acoustics

Installing a high-end muffler, such as those made by Xforce, is an easy way to change the sound levels your car produces when you're on the road. Mufflers are made to reflect back the sound waves that a vehicle's engine produces, thereby dulling the noises typically associated with a running car. This can make for a more peaceful and pleasant driving experience. In addition to this, some mufflers can also enhance the efficiency of your car's engine.

If you love listening to music during your daily drives, you might also want to consider splashing out on a new speaker system. Unless you are lucky enough to own a top-of-the-line luxury car, the likelihood is that the standard factory-installed sound system in your vehicle is probably quite low quality. When shopping for a new system, look for one with a high power output, which is made from materials like rubber and foam; these are robust and deliver a high level of sound clarity.
